‘Vindication’ as samurai sword killer’s girlfriend Hannah Quinn acquitted

On 9 September 2023 The Court of Criminal Appeal allowed an appeal by our client, Ms Hannah Quinn against her conviction by a jury as an accessory after the fact to the unlawful killing of Mr Jett McKee. Ms Quinn’s co-accused, Mr Blake Davis, was convicted of manslaughter by excessive force. Ms Quinn has previously been acquitted of murder during the trial.

The Court held, by majority that, on the whole of the evidence, it was not open to the jury to be satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt that Ms Quinn was guilty of the offence charged such that the jury’s verdict was unreasonable.

We were very fortunate to be able to instruct Belinda Rigg SC (Senior Public Defender) in this complex appeal.
